Gillette Ridge

About
Gillette Ridge Golf Club in Bloomfield, just outside of Hartford, is an Arnold Palmer Signature course. It is one of the toughest rounds in all of New England. The course sprawls across a beautiful landscape covered with natural wetlands and forests of towering maples, oaks, and elm trees. There are strategically placed bunkers in addition to the natural challenges but they are not excessive. The wetlands come into play on almost half of the holes at Gillette Ridge Golf Club. The approaches to the greens are seemingly intimidating but as long as you don't hit short there is always bailout area on one side. Since each hole presents a unique challenge, there is not just one signature hole, but one of the most memorable holes is the par-5 second, a true risk-reward test that requires both length and accuracy.

The sixth, 173, 3-par: The long slender green, obliquely set to the tee, is a common feature at Gillette. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2021

The ninth green: par 4, 405, but the blues were set at 440 today. A murderously tough golf hole. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2021

Eleven: par 5, 500. Another strong driving hole, with the Heublein Tower as part of the backdrop. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2021

Eleven again, at its well-defended green. My playing partners prepare to putt. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2021

16: One of my playing partners, a scratch golfer and club member, praised the quality of the three finishing holes; this is the first of them. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2021

Gillette Ridge's drivable par-4 13th is an excellent hole. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/08/2017

The 16th green at Gillette Ridge shows the course is consciously shrinking the putting surfaces, presumably for ease of maintenance. I wish they wouldn't do this - it makes an already hard course even tougher and will slow pace of play. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/08/2017

Missed tee time
Had a major family emergency missed tee time love playing course working at turning stone this year kahuta .any help much appreciated
Course is in good shape considering it’s almost December. Greens were still running decently fast.
Will at the pro shop was very helpful, along with the rest of the staff. Made for a nice day.
Great course, very slow play!!!
This course is spectacular and very difficult. Only good golfers should play it, but unfortunately that’s not the case. Every time I play there to play extremely slow. 5 1/2 hours every time. Be prepared for a long day. I walked off after 14 holes yesterday. There was a ranger on the course for the first time ever that I’ve seen and he did absolutely nothing to speed up. There were 24 in front of me and at least two holes open in front of them and we waited on every shot.
Bfly
Course is in great shape for time of the year. One of the most difficult we play in the area. Greens are perfect, fairways too. Club up!
Great course
From tee to green, the course was in great condition. Lots of nice green grass, fast greens. It was a very windy day so lots of leaves was the only negative. Really cool layout with lots of club selection. Definitely one of Connecticut’s best public courses. Can’t wait to play it again
Challenging but Fun course
There are a few fairways that are long and challenging on both the front and back nines. The course was in good shape and the ground crew has done a great job of removing the leaves from the fairways and greens.
Pace was slooooowwwwww
This is the second time in my golf career where I’ve spent 5+ hours playing and let me tell you by the turn… it had been 3.5 hours. Made the back 9 unenjoyable
Beautiful Fall Day
Course was in great condition, beautiful fall day
Although here in CT at this time of year it’s
Challenging to find your ball if not in the fairway.
This time of year is especially enjoyable to
Play a round, since all others seem to have given
Up for the year.
