Painted Desert Golf Club

About
One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.
Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.
The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.
"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

Total Letdown
Yes, I may be a tourist, but I travel and pay to golf in a lot of places, Las Vegas is one of them. This was by far the worst of the courses I've played in the Vegas area. What a total letdown. Conditions were deteriorating, litter and trash all over, bunkers were hard and thin of actual sand and full of rocks, tee boxes were beat-up and had weeks worth of broken tees and unfilled divots, fairways were in rough shape, greens were diseased and inconsistent. Overall, I'm disappointed that I wasted ANY time or money here. I would not return for free....straight up.
Both holes 9 and 18 run on either side of the range, and were littered with range balls....way to many to be only from that day, or even the last two days. I'm talking hundreds of range balls all over the fairways and in the bunkers. Completely unacceptable. Add-in the fact that the starter pushed us to tee off early, despite having just purchased range balls, and paired us with a 2-some who had zero golf etiquette.
Yet parked next to #18 is a cart kid with a wet towel looking to make a buck off of the people finishing their round. "No Thanks" I said, "but maybe you can go pick-up some of the balls all over the fairway", as I pointed back at them all.
This course was an embarrassment and I'm assuming a shell of what it likely once was, as the layout isn't bad at all. If you are considering playing here....Don't do it. Spend a little more and play a course that is managed by someone who takes pride in their job. Because this place surely isn't.

Mark, we truly appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear about your experience. Your observations about course conditions will be shared with our team to ensure we address these concerns. We strive for improvement and hope you'll consider giving us another chance in the future. Thank you for your insights.

Wasted Potential
Such a great layout, only to be wasted by apathetic management. Many of the bunkers on this once great course were full of rocks or no sand at all. Fairways and greens were mostly okay but all had issues you hoped to avoid. Too bad. At that price point, it was criminal.

Jmkingpin, thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your kind words about the layout and are sorry to hear about your experience with the course conditions. We're actively working on improvements to enhance the overall experience. Your insights are invaluable to us as we strive to do better.

Would not recommend
Paid $150 to play the course, which might be cheap in Las Vegas this time of year, but is pretty expensive compared to courses I am playing in Phoenix. For the money, I expected so much more. Course layout was fun, but the conditions were like those of a $30 muni: bare tee boxes, patchy fairways, and the bunkers, which were everywhere, were like concrete. Just very poor all the way around. Staff was very nice though. They deserve better. Would skip it if I were you.

Hello,
We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear your experience didn't meet expectations. We're glad you enjoyed the course layout and our staff, but we understand the conditions were disappointing. Our bermuda grass in the rough is dormant during the winter. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! We would love to have you back during warmer weather and a fully green course.

Greens need some TLC. Continue working to get the geese of the track. Great starter, keep everyone on pace, though having a marshal in the course once in a while will be great also to keep everyone moving.

Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate your insights and are actively working on improving the greens. The geese are a difficult situation as they are protected in Las Vegas. We do our best to keep them off the greens, but they settle in our fairways. Your suggestions for course marshals are noted—keeping everyone on pace is a priority for us. We hope to enhance your experience on your next visit!

Vegas golf - must play
Don't' miss playing at Painted Dessert - great track - pretty course.
super friendly and helpful staff - Me and my playing partner had to leave from the course to Airport - the staff kept our luggage and helped us tremendously- great breakfast.

Bad Course / Bad Service
Course is not in good shape. Ground is very hard and rolls forever. They have a menu up at hole 7 or 8 to order at the turn. No one would answer the phone. Pro shop was nice enough to put my order in for me. When we went to pick it up it wasn't ready and had to wait a longtime before giving up and leaving. No one there seems to care about the service or the course. That will be my one and only time golfing there.

Hi biermm34, we sincerely apologize for your experience. Your feedback is invaluable, and we’re addressing the course conditions and service issues you mentioned. We strive for a better experience, and we hope you’ll consider giving us another chance in the future. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Very good golf course
The golf course is perfect in every way.
The course layout is good, the condition is good, and the staff is very friendly.
I would like to recommend it to my friends, and I also play about 4 times a week.

Thanks for the great feedback, shimgaewon! We're thrilled you enjoyed the course layout and our friendly staff. Your recommendation means a lot to us. We look forward to seeing you on the greens again soon!

Delayed Tee-Off, never finished
Ran 20-30 minutes behind to tee off, never finished the round due to sunset and extreme overbooking and slow play. Course in mediocre condition, poor green conditions in places, not putter friendly. No on course customer support for slow play.

Hello, we’re really sorry to hear about your experience. We strive for better and appreciate your feedback on the tee times and course conditions. We're actively looking into these issues to improve our service for future visits. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

Much better pace of play, seems like groups were sent out every 15min or so, so there was minimal wait around the tee boxes. I didn't see any marshal on the course which is something that really makes things smoother, but overall better experience this time. Greens need some TLC, they are fair at best, fairways seem good this time around. Keep it up from here for the spring season.

Thanks for your feedback and repeat business! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the improved pace of play. We appreciate your insights about the marshals and greens; we’re committed to enhancing the experience for everyone. Looking forward to a great spring season! Alan B. General Manager
Not worth the $130 dollar price tag
The greens were very nice and firm and the course was good in general, but there was absolutely zero sand in the bunkers. The bunkers were just filled with hard packed sand and gravel, making any attempt to get out impossible and sticking it on the green

Thanks for your feedback, Sebastian. We’re glad you enjoyed the greens and overall course quality. We’re currently addressing the bunker conditions to enhance your experience. Your insights help us improve, and we appreciate you sharing them!

Profits over pace
Common theme across las vegas arcis managed courses is poor pace. Its a shame that there will never be an improvement of pace. Why???
1. Profit comes first
2. Pace improvements conflict revenue goal
3. Reactive not proactive
4. Competitive pressure not strong
Fact is that arcis has the local las vegas economy by the throat, and they don't have to change. If every golfer who plays low cost courses decided to take their business for a month to aliante, the club at sunrise, durango hills, north las vegas municipal, stallion mountain, or desert willow.... perhaps they would implement change.
Brutal truth:
The Arcis group operates as a for-profit business, and improving pace-of-play is only a priority if it directly impacts their bottom line. Unless golfers demand changes—either by providing feedback, leaving negative reviews, or playing elsewhere—significant improvements are unlikely. The unfortunate truth is that as long as courses remain profitable, pace-of-play issues will likely remain secondary to revenue generation.
Complain all you want but nothing sparks change for businesses like a loss of revenue.

Hello, we appreciate your candid feedback and understand your concerns about pace. We're constantly evaluating our operations and value all input. Your thoughts are crucial in helping us improve. We hope to enhance your experience in the future. Thank you for sharing your perspective.

Not worth your time or $ right now!
Context…
1 handicap and I’ve played golf all over the world.
Greens, good pace but BUMPY and unhealthy.
Every hole looks the same. Not much personality to the course outside of a couple holes with water.
PACE OF PLAY, WOW! If you want to spend 5.5 hours with someone and get to know their life story, this is the place for you!
With so many options in the Vegas area for similarly priced greens fees, this isn’t one you should add to your rotation.

BearCreek2019, we appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear about your experience. We're committed to improving our course and pace of play. Your insights help us understand our guests' needs better. Thank you for sharing, and we hope you'll consider giving us another chance in the future.
