'Must Play' course when in Albuquerque
Twin Warriors is located west of Bernalillo, about 25 minutes north of Albuquerque and is part of the Hyatt Regency Tamaya property. It is an absolutely beautiful course in a fantastic setting. It is, in my opinion, one of the top courses in the Albuquerque area along with Paa-Ko, Sandia Golf Club, and UNM South.
Layout is challenging with several arroyos filling in for where you might find water elsewhere (i.e.-#10). Hit your ball in one of those & you can forget it. Out of towners beware, I've seen some pretty impressive rattlesnakes in & around the course, especially along the cliffs lining holes 15 & 16.
Practice facility is expansive with separate driving range, large putting green, & short game areas (2).
Course conditions are typically top notch, but the views of the Rio Grande River valley and Sandia Peak from some of the tee boxes (i.e.-#8) will take your breath away. When they grow the rough up for US Open qualifying, it can make the course play longer and especially brutal if you miss the fairway.
I've never found the staff to be particularly friendly compared to other courses in the area.
The on course grill is OK but the course is a short walk to the Hyatt Regency Tamaya & all of it's amenities, including bar, restaurant, & grill. Definitely head there after your round if you have the time & money.
Definitely a 'must play' course in the Albuquerque area.
Nice Track
Interesting layout but can be confusing for your first time since some of the drives have blind spots. Nice GPS helps!. I'm a local and play often and have always been disappointed in the quality of the greens for a course of this level. They are usually spotty and bumpy and slow: even in high season. Best clubhouse merchandise section around and the food in the cafe is very good. Practice facilities are very good offering a large chipping area and practice green - rolls much better than the course greens. A bit out of town and on the property of the Hyatt Tamaya resport. beautiful views especially during the Fall when the cottonwood trees along the Rio Grande change.
High Desert Golf Done Right
Twin Warriors is in between Albuquerque and Santa Fe and is not a far drive from either one. It has a putting green, driving range, restaurant and all the amenities which one could want at a course. The setting is nice with views of arroyos, canyons and mountains all about you. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Good food in the restaurant-stick around for dinner and drinks complete with a view. Dining in the restaurant comes with views of mountains and the course.
An aerial game is essential as there are many holes with carries on the tee shots on par 3s and approaches over water or hazards on par 5s. Big Hitters will like this place as distance is rewarded. There are a couple of semi-blind drives but one can figure out the best line. Bunkering is strategic and there are not an abundance of them on the course. The routing goes up and down some hills and so distance control comes into play on approaches as one has to factor in elevation changes. I am sure that with a two club wind this place will be quite challenging. Two of the par 5s have risk/reward second shots while one is a genuine three shotter. The par 3s vary in direction. Par 4s have variety of elevation changes, challenging length, dog legs and one is driveable.
If in New Mexico, I would put his right after Black Mesa and Paa-Ko ridge. Enjoyable golf in a nice setting.
We played today and the course is in excellent shape. Great value, friendly and courteous staff. Roughs are tough, but if you stay in the fairway, good things can happen. Tenth hole is a bear. Definitely recommend.
