Golf movie producer's enthusiasm shows off the true "Nature of the Game"
One of the most enjoyable things for a journalist is to talk to someone who truly believes in their project. You can't help but be drawn in a little, or at least, to feel your own enthusiasm for your own ventures be given a lift.
It's like that when I have spoken with Luke Kohl about his Mack Daddy Caddy and Bogey Nites efforts. Here is someone who fervently believes golf could and should reach a larger audience, and that the etiquette and gentlemanly side of golf could benefit the young on a much broader scale by adding a soundtrack to it.
And it was like that when I've spoken to Scott Clark, the executive producer of the upcoming golf art film "The Nature of the game: A Visionary Tribute to Golf."
Clark - perhaps unsurprisingly, a close friend of Kohl's - was preparing to make the switch to full-time musician after working as a sales manager with Yahoo. But his love of golf made "The Nature of the Game" an opportunity he couldn't pass up.
"The Nature of the Game" is being filmed by Swiss photographer Dent-de-Lion du Midi, will be a pure art film in sparkling high-definition where the plot is simple - golf is beautiful, here, see for yourself.
"This film explains the inexplicable of why we love this game," said Clark. "We think it's performance that keeps us coming back, but I think it's something deeper. If you want to see why golf is so special, watch this film."
And the movie is a good idea. "Endless Summer" remains a classic for surfers, while Warren Miller has produced reel upon reel of film that captures the action skiers worship. The NFL has NFL Films, which has captured so much action from so many different angles, it can be packaged and repackaged to show different, and beautiful parts of football that can go undetected.
So now, it is du Midi and Clark and some others, working to do the same with golf. They are hoping for a 2008 release and one thing is for sure - they have the enthusiasm needed to get the job done.
