This Week at WorldGolf.com: Dec. 14, 2006
Like Nike & Tiger Woods, WorldGolf.com wants to put a face with our name. So who will it be?
Sitting around the boardroom the other day, the WorldGolf.com chief executives were tossing around ideas to improve WorldGolf.com's name recognition. There were some good ideas, and bad ideas.
Changing our motto from "Golf's First Homepage" to "Official Michelle Wie Bikini Photo Portal" was deemed to be in such horrible taste that it would probably hurt us in the long run, as was "Official Phil Mickelson's Bikini Photo Portal." Plus, we don't have any bikini photos of Wie, and just a few of Mickelson.
Then, we realized what we must do. We need to hire a golfer as an endorser. This would be no small feat, especially since we're unwilling to offer money, perks, or anything else to said golfer. Nonetheless, it's something we realized we need to do.
Having seen the massive amounts of publicity Nike has bought from Tiger Woods, we understand that having an endorser is a big deal. Woods recently re-signed with Nike for however many untold millions. The deal has been a cash cow for both Woods and Nike as Woods has spent a portion of his valuable time screaming "Buy Nike stuff!" into a bullhorn, while Nike has sold oodles of its sweatshop-made merchandise in return.
Once again, let us remind prospective endorsers, that we have no cash to offer. But we feel the time is now to put a face with our name. We need a golfer ready to jump in with both feet. A golfer who is willing to be part of our brand. A golfer willing to work for nothing but an occasional mention in Dot Wong's blog.
The positives of this far outweigh the negatives and soon maybe ESPN's Jason Sobel will write dramatic lines like this for our endorser, as he did for Tiger and Nike:
"[Tiger Wood's] union with Nike Golf is one that preceded his relationship with caddie Steve Williams, instructor Hank Haney, or even wife Elin."
So struggling golfers of the world, give us a call. We're ready to create a union with you. Because whether it's for a billion, or for nothing, it's all the same when you sell out your name.
As always, WorldGolf.com welcomes your comments.
